Singapore Immigration looks at Singapore University Education: According to a report by The Independent on September16, the annual world university rankings released by the UK-based QS organization show that universities in the United States and the United Kingdom once again dominate the top positions. However, it is noteworthy that this year, two dark horses have emerged in the world university rankings, namely outstanding institutions from Switzerland and Singapore. Last year, universities from these two countries pushed Canada out of the top five, indicating a strong possibility of surpassing the UK and the US, becoming countries with the world's top universities.
Singaporean universities performed outstandingly in last year's world university rankings, with two universities ranked second and third. The National University of Singapore ranked fifth in the 2014-2015 world university rankings, a remarkable achievement that reflects the country's emphasis on and strong support for higher education.
Ben Sowter, the research director of the QS organization, added: "As a nation, Singapore shocked the world by gaining independence in its first 50 years. The cultural industry has always been the engine driving the country's development, so political and financial focus must be placed on education. At the pinnacle of Singapore's education stands the National University of Singapore."
