Greek Immigration insights on doing business in Greece: Greek shipping companies have become major non-operating owners (NOOs) and a significant force that cannot be ignored in the global container shipping market. According to Alphaliner data, the proportion of Greek-owned container ships in the global operating fleet has risen to 10%, totaling 438 vessels with a total capacity of 1.92 million TEU. In 2010, Greek-owned container ships accounted for only 5.8% of the global fleet, with 226 vessels and a total capacity of 760,000 TEU.

Alphaliner points out that the strong reputation of Greek shipowners is a key factor in attracting investors to container ship investments. Over the past five years, a significant portion of the new investments in the fleets owned by these shipowners has come from third-party investors, including foreign private equity funds, listed management companies, and investment institutions.
In addition, Greek shipowners are a primary group taking over vessels from German KG fund companies, with some Greek shipowners seeking private and public equity resources to gain market share in the KG capital market. Over the past few years, despite some poor investment decisions (such as certain investments by Synergy and Diana Containerships), Greek shipowners have played a significant role in this regard.
Currently, the market share of Greek shipowners in the non-operating owner market has reached 20.1%, nearly doubling from 11.3% in 2010.
