Many immigration applicants, after processing their Guinea-Bissau immigration, wish to travel to Guinea-Bissau to experience the local life and culture. However, as Guinea-Bissau is an African nation, many are concerned about whether the locals are unfriendly or unwelcoming. After obtaining Guinea-Bissau residency, traveling there for a vacation is an excellent choice, as the local people are quite friendly toward us Chinese. Below, let us take a look at the life of Deng Yujin, a Chinese physician living in Guinea-Bissau.

Chinese People Are Well-Received in Guinea-Bissau

Deng Yujin is an attending physician in the acupuncture department of a traditional Chinese medicine hospital in China. In September 2012, he and six other doctors from various hospitals were sent as members of a Chinese medical team to provide medical aid in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau in Africa. The following are his observations and experiences while working abroad on this medical aid mission.

Highly Skilled Craftsmanship Earns Respect from the People of Guinea-Bissau

In Guinea-Bissau, medical facilities are very rudimentary, and the local people struggle to access quality healthcare. To assist Guinea-Bissau, China established two medical aid stations in the country: one in the capital, Bissau, and another in Gabú, 80 kilometers away from the capital. Deng Yujin works at the Bissau station. The dedicated assistance provided by Chinese aid workers has earned the Chinese community a strong reputation in Guinea-Bissau.

Due to Guinea-Bissau's proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, the hot and humid climate, combined with the local habit of consuming salty food, has led to a high prevalence of conditions such as hypertension, tinnitus, enuresis, hemiplegia, and peripheral facial paralysis, with a trend toward younger patients. Deng Yujin is highly skilled in traditional Chinese acupuncture; his treatments are affordable, effective, and well-targeted, making him particularly popular among local patients. Today, the acupuncture department receives over 50 patient visits daily, and the hospital has assigned five local doctors to study under Deng Yujin. In the eyes of the locals, acupuncture is a magical form of Chinese culture.

Selfless Contribution to the Development of Guinea-Bissau Earns Praise for the Chinese Community

"Chinese medical team members are highly respected here," says Deng Yujin. Local patients often greet them with a thick accent in broken Chinese, saying, "Hello, China!" The Bissau hospital where Deng Yujin works was built and operated with Chinese assistance. Since Deng Yujin arrived in Bissau, China has successively donated a series of facilities and equipment to the hospital, including vehicles, digital radiography machines, CT scanners, ultrasound machines, as well as massage tables for acupuncture and physical therapy, ultrasonic therapeutic apparatuses, TDP heat lamps, computers, and hospital beds.
