25-year-old Sarah Langille is the owner of Kye. She has maintained her hobby of raising kittens for five years. Although her kitten has now won a Guinness World Record, she stated in an interview with CBC staff that she did not raise the cat to win this record; she simply enjoys it.
A natural genetic mutation causes the Munchkin breed to have particularly short legs among felines. Months ago, a friend of Langille's told her that Kye was the shortest cat he had ever seen. Langille then contacted the Guinness World Records team and provided video evidence of Kye, along with proof of his length, which was measured three times by a professional veterinarian using specialized equipment.
Kye only has particularly short legs, while his body is of normal length. Reports indicate that when Kye sits, he resembles a meerkat, and when he stands, he looks like a little person. Despite his short legs and underdeveloped eyes since birth, these factors do not hinder Kye at all; he can jump 2.5 meters (8 feet) high. Due to Kye's small size, he is not a match for other animals, and Langille does not allow the Guinness World Records team to take him outside.
