Besenyei Performs Stunts Flying Low Through the Corinth Canal in Greece

Immigrate to Greece and listen to Greek stories: Recently, 58-year-old Hungarian aerobatic pilot Peter Besenyei performed a thrilling low-altitude aerobatic flight show over the Corinth Canal in Greece, featuring a series of high-difficulty maneuvers including rolls and spins. Besenyei has also become the first person to fly an aircraft at low altitude through the Corinth Canal.

 

 

Peter Besenyei, a Hungarian aerobatic pilot and a godfather of the Red Bull Air Race, has won multiple world championships in the field of aerobatics. Living near Budapest Airport, Besenyei has had a passion for flying since childhood and decided to become a pilot at the age of 6. At 15, he completed his first flight in a glider, and at 20, he began participating in flight competitions. In 2011, Besenyei performed a high-difficulty flight under the Széchenyi Chain Bridge in Hungary, becoming a benchmark figure in modern aerobatic racing.

When flying through the Corinth Canal, Besenyei piloted the Zivko Edge 540 aerobatic aircraft he uses in the Red Bull Air Race. It features a powerful 300-horsepower engine, 7.3-meter wings, and can cover 1,220 meters in one minute.

The Corinth Canal was built in the 19th century. It is 6.4 kilometers long, 21 meters wide, and 7 meters deep. Located on the Isthmus of Corinth in southern Greece, it connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf, linking the Ionian Sea and the Aegean Sea. It cuts across the Peloponnese peninsula, separating it from mainland Greece and effectively turning it into an island.
