An American immigration perspective on life in the United States: According to foreign media reports, a man in the United States planted a 4-mile-long "Sunflower Avenue" along Highway 85 in Wisconsin to commemorate his late wife, as sunflowers were her favorite flower during her lifetime.
It was reported that last November, an American woman named Babette unfortunately passed away at the age of 66 due to cancer. To honor her, her husband, Jacques, planted sunflowers along both sides of Highway 85, gradually creating a spectacular "Sunflower Avenue." The flower field is approximately 18 meters wide and 4.5 miles (about 7.2 kilometers) long.
65-year-old Jacques stated that his wife loved flowers, and sunflowers were her favorite. "They (the sunflowers) are very similar to Babette's personality. She was someone who could light up a room with her smile as soon as she walked in."
Jacques runs a farm and married Babette in 2000; both were previously married. Since Babette was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, Jacques, along with his stepdaughter, has been planting sunflower fields around the farm, covering hundreds of acres.
After Babette's passing, Jacques expanded the flower field, starting from the highway and crossing over to five other farms. The owners of the other farms supported Jacques' plan to plant sunflowers and offered reasonable prices for him to rent their land.
Now, Jacques' farm packages these sunflower seeds in bags featuring Babette's smiling face and names them "Babbette's Seeds of Hope." The official website for "Seeds of Hope" states that a portion of the proceeds from the sale of these sunflower seeds will be donated to hospitals for cancer research and advocacy for cancer patients.
