U.S. immigration focuses on life in the United States: According to British media reports, since his passing in 2011, Apple co-founder and visionary Steve Jobs has been the subject of various literature, books, films, and even comics. Now, this technology pioneer will appear in an upcoming opera, celebrated through song.
The Santa Fe Opera in Albuquerque, New Mexico, announced today that it has commissioned an opera company to create a new opera based on the story of Jobs, which will premiere in 2017. The title of the opera is "The Revolution of Steve Jobs," which will reflect on the people and events that influenced Jobs throughout his life, showcasing the reflections of the inventor of the computer mouse and iPhone on his life's destiny.
In recent years, New Mexico has been dedicated to showcasing its relationship with technology innovators like Jobs and Bill Gates. For example, the Route 66 motel in Albuquerque, where Bill Gates and Paul Allen once stayed, will be converted into apartments. Jobs was fired from Apple in 1985 and returned 11 years later, launching products such as the iMac, iPod, and iPhone. The opera's director, Charles MacKay, stated that this experience is a great subject for an opera.
He stated, "We are excited to showcase the life and legacy of a prominent American figure through the creative talents of Mason Bates and Mark Campbell." Composer Bates and lyricist Campbell will co-write this opera. Bates noted that Jobs' story embodies creativity, innovation, and interpersonal communication, and the relationships he had with those who helped him will also be reflected in the opera.
Bates remarked, "Each character has their own music, and it is very interesting when they come into conflict."
