Azimo, an online remittance service company, announced today that it has expanded its operations to Sierra Leone and Guinea-Bissau. Azimo has significantly increased its cash pickup locations to provide fast payment services to recipients in these West African nations.
According to the World Bank, Sierra Leone and Guinea received a combined total of $250 million in 2012, which provided a vital financial source for the economic development of both countries and for the families receiving the funds. Azimo has entered into a close partnership with regional remittance specialist Afro International. Through this collaboration, Azimo can now provide 17 million customers with direct remittance services in local currency, Euros, and US Dollars.
Michael Kent, CEO and founder of Azimo, stated: "Last year, Sierra Leone and Guinea faced severe economic pressure due to the ravages of the Ebola epidemic. During this critical time, countries like the United Kingdom provided remittance assistance to help them rebuild their homes and recover from the worst epidemic to hit the region this century. By updating our online platform, we can now increase the speed at which we provide funds to families and broaden the channels for accessing these funds."
Azimo provides fast, secure, and low-cost services for large remittances. As a leader in online and mobile money transfers, Azimo has established the most comprehensive network across all digital devices, offering remittance services in 80 currencies to over 200 countries.
In addition to cash pickup, Azimo also allows customers to send money to Sierra Leone and Guinea via SWIFT and mobile top-ups. The company also plans to roll out new payment services across the entire West African region by the end of this year to further expand its business in the area.
