According to a report by Hong Kong's Sing Tao Daily, Hong Kong Disneyland celebrated its 10th anniversary on the 12th. Facing competition from surrounding areas, the park's CEO, Michael Moriarty, stated that there will still be active expansion in the future. In addition to conducting preliminary research for the second phase of the expansion plan, the park will also make good use of three unused plots of land totaling over 5 hectares to add more attractions. He also revealed that the park is reserving two plots of land for hotel use, and the park will utilize Disney's blockbuster movies each year to create special programs to attract visitors.
The area and theme of the second phase of the park's expansion have yet to be discussed. Michael Moriarty emphasized that before the expansion is completed, the park must continuously devise new activities to attract tourists to return. He stated that tourists' tastes are constantly changing, and to remain appealing, adjustments must be made to development strategies. In recent years, the park has actively utilized Disney's hit movies for promotions, such as "Frozen" and "Inside Out," which have resonated with audiences, leading to the creation of the "Frozen Village" to boost visitor flow and spending.
He also revealed that Disney's early acquisitions of Marvel and Star Wars have provided a wealth of new cartoon characters to utilize, making the creation of movie-related programs to attract guests a significant trend in the park's future development.
Since the park opened on September 12, 2005, it has expanded with attractions such as “Stitch Encounter,” “Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters,” and “It’s a Small World” in 2006 and 2008 respectively, followed by “Toy Story Playland,” “Grizzly Gulch,” and “Mystic Manor” from 2011 to 2013. Next year, “Iron Man Experience” will open.
