Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced that the Water Supplies Department and the Rating and Valuation Department have joined the Electronic Bill Presentment and Payment (EBPP) platform, enabling the public to receive, view, manage, and pay water bills as well as rates and government rent notices through their online banking accounts.
Deputy Chief Executive of the HKMA, Peter Pang, expressed his pleasure at the two departments taking the lead in launching this service, noting that these two departments are the largest bill issuers, accounting for approximately 70% of the government's total bill payment volume. The HKMA will continue to encourage other major merchants, such as public utility companies and other government departments, to participate. Currently, 19 banks provide electronic bill presentment and payment services through their online banking systems, and 140 merchants and charitable organizations are participating, offering the public a one-stop payment service.
To enhance public awareness of this service, the HKMA and the Hong Kong Association of Banks have jointly produced a variety of educational and promotional materials, including television and radio announcements, demonstration videos, posters, and electronic brochures, which will be distributed through various channels.
