The biennial 'World Culture and Arts Festival' will take place in Hong Kong from October 16 to November 15. Over 40 performing arts groups from 9 countries around the world will present a total of 38 programs and 74 activities, including music, dance, and exhibitions.
The opening program of the festival, the tango dance drama 'Evita,' will be performed by the Buenos Aires Tango Company from Argentina. This drama tells the story of Eva, who comes from a poor village to the city, assisting General Perón in his rise to the presidency while advocating for the rights of the lower class.
The festival will also feature 3 programs starring Grammy Award winners, including performances by the Chieftains, who have a half-century-long career in international music playing Irish music, the Texas Tornados from the United States, and a performance by Angélique Kidjo, known as the 'Queen of African Music' from Benin.
The festival is organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong and is held every two years. This year marks the tenth anniversary, and other participating performing arts groups include the Chieftains led by renowned Irish piper Paddy Moloney, the Texas Tornados, the Georgian National Dance Company, and the Rajasthani Gypsy Orchestra from India.
