On August 15, 2015, the Embassy of China in Ireland held a symposium to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japan and the World Anti-Fascist War. More than 30 people attended the meeting, including diplomats from the embassy, overseas Chinese in Ireland, experts and scholars, international students, and representatives from Chinese-funded enterprises and Chinese-language media.
Participants spoke enthusiastically and shared profound insights. They reviewed the historical facts of the entire nation uniting with one heart and one mind to save the country during the War of Resistance, and exchanged views on the development of China-Japan relations after World War II, the rightward shift in Japanese politics, and the spirit of the War of Resistance in relation to realizing the Chinese Dream. Attendees expressed that all Chinese people, both at home and abroad, should understand and remember the history of humiliation and struggle since modern times, strive for excellence in their respective industries and fields, live up to the glorious mission entrusted by the era, safeguard the hard-won peace, and contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Wu Lijun, Chargé d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Ireland, delivered concluding remarks, stating that the War of Resistance Against Japan was a major catastrophe encountered by the Chinese nation in modern times. The Chinese people defended national independence, state sovereignty, and territorial integrity with their own blood, while also making significant contributions to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. China's advocacy for remembering history is not to perpetuate hatred, but to draw experience and lessons from history to find guidance for the future. Since the end of World War II, right-wing ideologies in Japan have occasionally surged, and attempts to deny or distort the nature of World War II still exist, which have become destabilizing factors affecting regional stability in Asia and world peace. The international community should work together to jointly safeguard the fruits of victory of World War II and the post-war international order.
