With the increasing proportion of students choosing to study in Ireland in recent years, the Irish visa application process has garnered significant attention. The student visa is a crucial step that cannot be overlooked for those traveling to Ireland for education. Are you familiar with the recent changes to the Irish student visa policy?

Regarding recent Irish visa policies, universities have been in contact with relevant departments during the implementation process, and there has been a shift in policy. For example, Chinese students who obtain an Irish university degree (including Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral degrees) may extend their student visa for an additional two years, during which they are permitted to seek employment within Ireland. After working for four years, they will be eligible to obtain Irish long-term residency.

Currently, this policy for Irish student visas has entered the discussion stage, and graduates in certain sectors with skill shortages, such as the software industry, healthcare, and construction, are already benefiting from these provisions.

After the six-month stay period for a Green Card application has elapsed, international students may apply for an Irish Green Card or a Work Permit.

The conditions for applying for an Irish Green Card are as follows: foreign nationals in any industry with an annual salary of over 60,000 Euros, or foreign nationals in certain sectors experiencing shortages in Ireland (such as IT, healthcare and hygiene, engineering, financial services, education, etc.) with an annual income between 30,000 and 60,000 Euros. The initial Green Card is valid for up to two years, after which it can be renewed or used to apply for Irish permanent residency.

Foreign nationals who do not meet the criteria for a Green Card may apply for an Irish Work Permit. The conditions for applying for an Irish Work Permit are as follows: an annual salary of over 30,000 Euros in almost any industry (excluding government administrative staff, retail, transportation, etc.). The initial Work Permit is valid for up to two years and can be renewed for an additional three years upon expiration.

Furthermore, when Chinese students apply to Irish institutions, the Irish side will evaluate the students' high school grades and IELTS scores, which may lead to varying degrees of tuition waivers and corresponding preferential policies. Currently, various Irish universities and the Ministry of Education are developing better policies to attract outstanding students to study in Ireland. Many Irish universities have indicated that they have corresponding plans regarding preferential policies for international students, and the prospects for Chinese students studying in Ireland are promising.
