According to information provided by Worldway Immigration Group, California is the state with the largest number of Chinese immigrants, and local residents have been plagued by years of drought. After years of waiting, California is finally about to be relieved of the drought.
Since the storm last Sunday brought widespread rain and snow to Northern California, another storm will sweep across two-thirds of California starting this weekend, bringing even more rain and snow.
California Experiences Its Wettest Year
On January 5, the U.S. National Weather Service stated that based on current trends, this year will be the wettest year on record for Northern and Southern California, while Central California will see its second-wettest year.
Although the National Weather Service has not yet declared that California is out of the drought, it is expected that the rain and snow will continue throughout this rainy season.
This weekend, a storm will reach the mountainous areas, bringing more snowfall. The U.S. National Weather Service believes this will not be the last storm.
Currently, California is under the influence of a warm system, and precipitation is expected to continue. Snowfall will persist in the high-altitude areas of the northern mountains, while the south will primarily experience rainfall.
Weather Service Issues Flood Warning
The San Francisco Bay Area will see rain starting Saturday and continuing through Monday, with San Francisco potentially receiving 3 to 4 inches of rain.
The National Weather Service has issued a warning that due to high temperatures, some of the fallen snow will melt, posing a flood threat to mountainous areas. Water levels in some smaller creeks may rise sharply, potentially leading to flooding.
The National Park Service stated that due to the forecast of heavy rainfall and the fact that the water level of the Merced River is rising much faster than the flood stage, major flooding is possible in Yosemite National Park, and the park may be closed for several days. The flood in January 1997 kept Yosemite National Park closed until March.
Reservoir Storage Increases Rapidly
The rain and snow on Sunday caused a rapid increase in the capacity of California's reservoirs. Within the 24 hours from Wednesday to Thursday, the water level of Folsom Lake, east of Sacramento, rose by 5 feet, equivalent to 1/10 of its capacity, reaching 44% of its capacity, compared to only 25% during the same period last year.
In recent years, California's reservoirs have rarely had to release water. The Nimbus Dam, located below Folsom Lake, has increased its water release to 10,000 cubic feet per second due to the sharp increase in inflow.
