Investing in Hong Kong, settling in Hong Kong, living in Hong Kong, and examining the average monthly expenditure of Hong Kong residents. The latest results from the "2014/15 Household Expenditure Survey" released by the Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department indicate that, based on an average of 3 persons per household, the average monthly expenditure has increased by 27.8% compared to the last survey 5 years ago, reaching 27,627 HKD, with per capita expenditure also rising by 29.65% to 9,253 HKD. Among various expenditures, housing costs account for the largest proportion of citizens' spending, reaching 36%, while other expenditures have also increased.
The Deputy Commissioner of the Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department, Leung Kwan-chi, believes that the high weight of housing expenditure, similar to advanced regions such as the United States and Japan, is a natural phenomenon, primarily due to citizens' high demands for housing.
The Household Expenditure Survey is conducted every five years, and this survey was carried out from October 2014 to September 2015, surveying 6,800 households, with a response rate of 72%.
