The bottom of the Boiling Lake features a circular vent that releases gases such as carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrochloric acid, and hydrogen sulfide. During eruptions, the valley roars, the ground shakes, and hot water forms columns 2 to 3 meters high, resembling a pot of boiling water, which is how the lake got its name. Due to the long-term impact of sulfurous and other harmful gases in the surrounding area, the growth and reproduction of flora and fauna are significantly affected, leaving large areas of vegetation destroyed and the landscape desolate, hence it is known as the "Valley of Desolation."

The spectacle of the Boiling Lake often leaves visitors in awe. It is considered one of the great wonders of the Caribbean, attracting scientists and tourists from all over the world to study and admire it. However, as the Boiling Lake is situated in a volcanic valley, visitors must trek through dense tropical rainforests and the Valley of Desolation to reach it, making it a true adventure.
