It is reported that Facebook submitted the planning permission in June. Facebook plans to build the data center in two phases over the next ten years on this 220-acre site, which is only a 30-minute drive from Dublin. This news was revealed when Facebook began recruiting electrical engineers and data center managers in Ireland in May. At that time, the start date was unknown, as the construction of a data center here could have faced opposition.

Meath County Council Chairman Brian Fitzgerald stated, "This is one of the best collaborative projects for industrial development in Co. Meath that I have seen in 30 years."

The first phase of the data center will include eight data halls and office space across two buildings, with a floor area of 50,800 square meters and a data center power capacity reaching 72MW. Additionally, a new 220KV substation will be built near the data center.

The data center that Facebook opened and operates in Luleå, Sweden, employs approximately 100 staff members. Consequently, Facebook stated that the construction of this data center will bring millions of euros in business to Ireland and provide thousands of technical jobs for the local area.

Ireland remains a popular location for data center construction. Recently, Microsoft requested approval to build its fifth data center in West Dublin, while Apple will spend 930 million USD (850 million euros) to build a massive data center near Derrydonnell Forest in Ireland.
