Saint Kitts adopts a Commonwealth education system, implementing a 12-year compulsory education for students aged 5 to 17. There are 30 public schools, 8 private schools, and 1 technical school nationwide. After studying locally in Saint Kitts, students can directly transfer to other Commonwealth countries to continue their education. Below, we introduce the four major institutions in the area:
1. Medical University of the Americas
Located on Nevis Island, the Medical University of the Americas is a branch of the renowned Medical University of the Americas in the United States. This medical program is four years long: the first two years are spent in Nevis for foundational education, followed by two years of clinical training in hospitals in the United States and Ireland. Graduates receive a Doctor of Medicine degree. Admission to this medical school is generally easier compared to local institutions in the United States, and tuition fees are approximately half or less than that of the home country. Most students come from North America. The language of instruction is English. Graduates are eligible to take the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and can apply for positions such as interns and residents in the United States. The Medical University of the Americas in Saint Kitts and Nevis is recognized by the World Health Organization and accredited by the Ministry of Education of Saint Kitts and Nevis. It is also recognized by the New York State Department of Education, allowing students from the Medical University to undertake clinical training and education in New York State for more than twelve weeks.
2. Windsor University School of Medicine
