The awards include the Best Translation Award and the Best Publisher Award. The winner of the Best Translation Award will receive a cash prize of 17,000 RMB, as well as a scholarship to support a one-month exploration tour of contemporary Irish works to assist in the translation of their next Irish literary project. The publisher will receive a prize of 4,250 RMB.
The prizes are co-sponsored by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland, Literature Ireland, the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, and the Shanghai Press and Publication Administration.
The purpose of these awards is to promote the translation of more Irish literary works into Chinese and to disseminate Ireland's rich and long-standing literary tradition. It is hoped that this will increase the visibility of Irish writers in China and recognize the significant contributions made by Chinese translators and publishers in this field.
The shortlist for this year's "Irish Literature Translation Award" has been announced, including: "On Canaan's Side" (translated by Li Yuchao, Yilin Press), "Red Ribbon" (translated by Zhou Jianing, Chongqing University Press), "Dancer" (translated by Zhang Yun, Shandong Literature and Art Publishing House), and "The Empty Family" (translated by Bai Li, People's Literature Publishing House).
