Worldway Group Comprehensive News: Antigua and Barbuda is a vacation paradise located in the Caribbean. In 2013, the country passed the Citizenship by Investment Program Act, aiming to attract high-caliber global talent to boost its economy. Today, it has attracted many wealthy individuals and celebrities to invest and immigrate here. To live in this beautiful Caribbean island nation, one must understand the Antigua Carnival.
When people think of carnivals, they often think of beer, singing, dancing, parades, and float processions. So, what is the Antigua Carnival like?
The Antigua Carnival is a festival lasting over ten days, starting at the end of July each year and ending on the first Tuesday of August. It is a long-celebrated feast of music and dance. The Antigua Carnival can be traced back to August 1, 1834, as an event held by Black people to celebrate the abolition of slavery. It was established as an official event in 1957, with the government hoping to use the festival to promote the tourism industry of Antigua and Barbuda.
The Antigua Carnival is an event held to celebrate emancipation, with fixed daily celebrations such as parades, food exhibitions, cultural performances, and local music shows. Each day also features different large-scale celebratory events, including unique impromptu singing competitions, the Miss Antigua pageant parade, the Caribbean Queen pageant parade, and the J'ouvert event. Among them, the most important is the J'ouvert event. On the day of the event, people usually wake up at 3 or 4 a.m., choose their favorite band, and join them. On this day, people celebrate by painting their bodies or wearing eccentric costumes and drinking joyfully together.
You might even bump into the Prime Minister and his wife in the crowd, or other officials dancing along to the music. You won't see security guards, you won't see anyone holding umbrellas, and you certainly won't see any distance between them and the people. They are among the masses, enjoying the festivities with the public. This is the democratic and harmonious Antigua!
The opening ceremony of the Antigua Carnival is primarily an open-air parade, with participating bands and troupes appearing in branded T-shirts. The float parade is an indispensable element that kicks off the carnival, allowing contestants on the floats to better showcase their charm to the public. In recent years, the Chinese Embassy in Antigua and Barbuda and the Chinese community in the country have actively participated in the float parade.
